The Helena Contemporary Hobo Bag

A modern take on the traditional hobo shape because everyone needs a fun bag in their wardrobe. The Helena Bag is classic, contemporary and chic, with the stylish silhouette of a timeless hobo bag. Not too big, nor too small, the perfect everyday bag.

The Helena Contemporary Hobo is not all about aesthetics, it is designed for practicality too. It features feminine front pleats, a back zippered pocket, an interior slip pocket as well as a zippered pocket. The top zipper opens wide to allow an easy access to your interior. An adjustable shoulder strap that allows it to be worn under the arm or at the hip.

Best of all the Helena Bag can be made in any substrate you choose, whether it be a fun cotton print or dressed up in vinyl or leather. The detailed accent pieces can be made in either a raw edged vinyl, cork or leather or can be made with a contrasting cotton print.

The Helena Contemporary Hobo measures 13” wide, 8” high, and 4” Deep.

Materials Needed:

FABRICS AND INTERFACINGS:

• ½ yard 44” wide Quilting Cotton or ¼ yard 54” Canvas/Vinyl or Leather- Main Fabric

• ⅔ yard 44” wide Quilting Cotton - Lining Fabric

• 1 piece (at least) 10” x 12” Vinyl, Leather, or Cork Fabric or 1 fat quarter (18” x 21”) woven fabric - Contrast Fabric

• ½ yard 45” Fusible Pellon 809 Decor Interfacing - Heavy Interfacing

• 1 yard 20” Fusible Pellon SF 101 - Light Interfacing

• ⅓ yard Fusible Fleece -TP 97 1F - Pellon Fleece Thermolam Plus

HARDWARE:

• 2- 1” Rectangle rings, D-Rings, or O-Rings

• 1- 1” Adjustable Slider

ZIPPERS:

• 1- 14” #5 Coordinating Zipper- Main Closure

• 3- 10” #3 or #5 Coordinating Zipper - Back Exterior Zipper Pocket

• 1- 10” #3 or #5 Coordinating Zipper – Interior Zipper Pocket

  *NOTE: If using Zipper by the yard, you will need- 1  yard of #5 zipper tape and 3 pulls
